Design is a thought activity: we should not replace it with a mere “optimizing” approach, because it’s from imperfections that talent emerges.
For the first time, the eclectic talent of a world-renowned architect meets Italy and its territory for a unique creative challenge. Indeed, the new multifunctional cultural center designed by the French-Swiss starchitect Bertrand Tschumi will be built along the Marche coast and specifically in the city of Grottamare in order to attract, stimulate and revitalize cultural tourism in the area.
The center will host an impressive indoor auditorium with 1,500 seats and is the functional and strategic heart of the project A.N.I.M.A. promoted and funded by the CARISAP Foundation. It stands out for the original interaction between the compactness of the central body and the permeability of the outer facades characterized by finely crafted openings and windows.
These features particularly mirror the peculiar compositional sensitivity of Tschumi, who wanted to include the project into the recent retrospective exhibition dedicated to him and held at the prestigious Centre Pompidou in Paris.
In fact, as Tschumi stated (see video) during the press conference for the project presentation, the continuous pursuit for balance between the functionality of architecture and the respect of the surrounding landscape has always been the main stylistic feature of his work and designing vision.
