Keeping Sports Clean

Engaging billions of people, involving political decisions and moving huge amount of money, as a multi-billion dollar business, Sport is not only a global symbol of fair play but, unfortunately, a field where corruption remains a constant and real risk to fight

Whether participating, attending or watching events, Sport has always been a source of great joy for many people all around the world. Regrettably, general deficit in sports governance, increasing match-fixing and betting scandals and other factors are now undermining public’s level of trust in this discipline at a critical point.

Thus, keeping sports clean has become a global imperative as never before. That’s why Transparency International has decided to launch the project ‘Corruption in Sport Initiative’. Started on April 9, 2015 with the publishing of new analysis and commentary, the project aims to involve sport communities in the fight against corruption, connecting and including wider audiences, fans and supporters movements in the global war against dishonesty leaded by the international organization.

Mostly through partnerships with experts, supporters and sponsors and releasing new material linked to key sports events, Transparency wants to promote dialogue and recommendations to improve the governance of sport organizations and to strength the integrity of the bidding. As a result, awarding and hosting major of sport events and preventing match-fixing, the mission is to “create a way of life based on the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles” as written in the Olympic Charter.
