Anna Lindh Foundation towards a new chapter

Ten years of commitment for Mediterranean cultures: Anna Lindh Foundation celebrates its anniversary and closes an intense 2014, reconfirming its support to the dialogue between the peoples and getting ready for upcoming challenges

The year that has just ended has been full of events for Anna Lindh Foundation, that has celebrated in 2014 its tenth anniversary with five days of meetings and debates with the participation – among the others – of the ex-European commissioner Štefan Füle and of Romano Prodi (watch video).

Fathallah Sijilmassi, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, also attended with the representatives of the 42 UfM member states. The celebrations took place at the Fondazione Mediterraneo in Naples, within the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The thematic focus of the event was the new “chapter” of the Mediterranean dialogue that the Anna Lindh Foundation wants to “write” from 2015, by focusing on culture as an element of cohesion: a reconfirmed commitment based on the experience and looking to the new challenges concerning the area.

The year of ALF events concluded with the “Moltaqa” cycle in Alexandria of Egypt, dedicated to the role of citizens in building open and pluralist societies. Organized with workshops, theatre performances, concerts and institutional meetings, the cycle saw the participation of hundreds of citizens from EU and Middle East countries (Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania and Syria).

Design is a thought activity: we should not replace it with a mere “optimizing” approach, because it’s from imperfections that talent emerges.
