Design is a thought activity: we should not replace it with a mere “optimizing” approach, because it’s from imperfections that talent emerges.
Bring back the institutions to the people. Cultivate the collective memory. Return to people. These are just some of the inputs launched from the stage of ICS Europe 2014, the communication summit held by Pomilio Blumm in Brussels on 24 September, with its next Italian edition scheduled for 19 November in Rome.
Main speaker of the event, the African American director Spike Lee and the creator of the cult series House of Cards, Michael Dobbs. Both speakers, that can be listed among the most authoritative and popular storytellers of our time, have emphasized the power of the story to discover the collective memory and strengthen the European social identity.
To animate the event, alongside with the reflections of Lee and Dobbs, the "visions of the city" by Yasser Aref (Library of Alexandria) was presented, and also the in-depth research on heritage and crowdsourcing by Stephen Jacoviello (University of Siena), the “articulated speech on culture and online accessibility” by Simona Panseri (Google Italy). The introduction of Franco Pomilio and institutional greetings by Stephen Clark were opening the summit, moderated by journalist Barbara Serra.
