A new narrative for Europe

Promoting, supporting and maintaining an authentic European sentiment, able to keep together Institutions and citizens in the name of a common culture, is the goal of the project "A New Narrative for Europe", launched last year by the EU Commission

In April 2013, the European Commission and its President launched the initiative "A new narrative for Europe": a project that celebrates the European values, inviting regional Institutions and citizens to promote a kind of cultural "renaissance". Since then, the project has developed with the support of the European leaders and the implementation of various general meetings throughout Europe.

A series of meetings, still taking place, that saw artists, intellectuals, scientists, scholars, business leaders, public officials and ordinary citizens getting together in order to reflect on a new and different Europe, starting from the elements that are shared by the various local cultures, such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and the respect for human rights.

The declaration "The mind and body of Europe” has been signed as well. It recognizes culture as an essential source of nourishment and strength for European society and acknowledges the need for a collective and brave effort to make the European project grow.

Design is a thought activity: we should not replace it with a mere “optimizing” approach, because it’s from imperfections that talent emerges.
