THE RIACE BRONZES BACK ON DISPLAY, A SMART WAY FOR TERRITORIAL PROMOTION

Lost and then rediscovered, now they’re finally back “home”. The two amazing bronze statues, symbols of Calabria Region, are back on display for the public, but will keep on moving, thanks to the travelling exhibit of the great Italian photographer, Mimmo Jodice

Die Welt, Turkish Radio Television, CNN, Discovery Channel, New York Times, Kuwait TV, France Press Agency and CNBC are some of the international press agencies hosted in Reggio Calabria last 9–11 January, during the press tour organized by Pomilio Blumm, the agency following Calabria tourism communication, for Riace Bronzes’homecoming”.

After a 3-year refurbishment work, the two statues found in the sea near Riace in 1972 have definitively turned back to their original place: the New Archaeological Museum of Calabria. To celebrate the event, Mimmo Jodice took some exclusive pictures of the two statues, also labelled as “the young” and “the old”, in their new location with a series of author shots.

Jodice’s images are the heart of the promotional campaign of Calabria territory currently underway. The Calabria Region, together with Pomilio Blumm, has commissioned the maestro the realization of a travelling exhibit dedicated to The Bronzes.

The initiative was launched at the last International Tourism Fair in Milan (BIT), thus allowing the two masterpieces to reach every country while physically remaining in their original place, confirming themselves once again the best-known “ambassadors” of Calabria all over the world.

Design is a thought activity: we should not replace it with a mere “optimizing” approach, because it’s from imperfections that talent emerges.
